health & stigma
Within the LGBTQ+ community in Uganda, health disparities and stigma pose significant challenges to the well-being and rights of individuals. LWU recognizes the intersection of health and stigma and its profound impact on LGBTQ+ minorities who face persecution and discrimination. Through advocacy, education, and support services, LWU is committed to addressing health disparities and challenging stigma to promote the health and dignity of LGBTQ+ individuals in Uganda. In Uganda, LGBTQ+ individuals often face systemic barriers to accessing healthcare services due to stigma, discrimination, and legal restrictions. The pervasive stigma surrounding LGBTQ+ identities contributes to mental health issues, substance abuse, and increased vulnerability to HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs). These health disparities are further compounded by social exclusion, violence, and lack of access to affirming healthcare providers.
