We at LWU are committed to championing human rights for LGBTQ+ individuals in Uganda and Africa at large. In a society where discrimination and persecution against LGBTQ+ minorities are prevalent, our organization stands as a beacon of hope, striving to bring about positive change and empowerment for marginalized communities. Uganda has faced significant challenges in upholding the rights of LGBTQ+ individuals, with discriminatory laws and societal attitudes contributing to widespread discrimination, violence, and stigmatization. Despite these adversities, LWU has embarked on a courageous journey to advocate for the rights and dignity of LGBTQ+ individuals across the country.
peace, security & climate change
We at LWU recognize the interconnectedness of peace, security, and climate change with the well-being of LGBTQ+ minorities in Uganda. Our journey in addressing these issues is deeply intertwined with our mission to advocate for the rights and protection of marginalized communities facing persecution in Uganda. Peace and Security: Peace and security are essential components of creating an environment where LGBTQ+ individuals can live free from fear, violence, and discrimination. In Uganda, LGBTQ+ minorities often face threats to their safety and well-being due to societal stigma, discrimination, and legal persecution. LWU is dedicated to promoting peace and security by advocating for the protection of LGBTQ+ rights, challenging discriminatory laws and practices, and providing support and resources to individuals facing persecution.
media & misinformation
In the digital age, media plays a crucial role in shaping public perceptions, attitudes, and behaviors towards marginalized communities, including LGBTQ+ individuals. LWU recognizes the power of media and the pervasive issue of misinformation in exacerbating discrimination and persecution against LGBTQ+ minorities in Uganda. Through advocacy, education, and community engagement, LWU strives to address the harmful effects of media misinformation and promote accurate, inclusive representations of LGBTQ+ individuals. In Uganda, media outlets often perpetuate harmful stereotypes, myths, and misconceptions about LGBTQ+ individuals, contributing to their stigmatization and marginalization. Sensationalized reporting, biased coverage, and misinformation campaigns further fuel discrimination and violence against LGBTQ+ minorities, hindering efforts to achieve equality and justice.

Through advocacy, education, and support services, LWU is committed to addressing health disparities and challenging stigma to promote the health and dignity of LGBTQ+ individuals in Uganda. In Uganda, LGBTQ+ individuals often face systemic barriers to accessing healthcare services due to stigma, discrimination, and legal restrictions. The pervasive stigma surrounding LGBTQ+ identities contribute to mental health issues, substance abuse, and increased vulnerability to HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs). These health disparities are further compounded by social exclusion, violence, and lack of access to affirming healthcare providers.
